Pasquale Cuppari ARTIST
Italian immigrant born in 1939 Calabria ITALIA . Emigrated to the USA in 1957 .
Son of a farmer has a passion for NATURE . Self taught abstract painter whose approach
is EUROPEAN ART INFORMAL / TACHISME /LYRICAL ABSTRACTION .
THEISTIC EXISTENTIALIST driven by the need to please his father and pursue excellence .
He cut short his study of ENGINEERING for the more EXPRESSIVE and POETIC .
Prefers a subtle and sensual form of improvisational painting .
PASSION , RESPECT and INTIMACY regulate his visual space .
Beyond POLLOCK , ANTI-GEOMETRY and SURREALIST AUTOMATISM - painting as
SUBJECTIVE UNCERTAINTY. In agreement with CARL JUNG [ myth - ritual - memory ]
a painting is an event later to be recognized and named .
His abstractions emulate the universe of BENEDICT SPINOZA . ALL is the REVERBERATION
of GOD. Beyond the painting asks : IS to pursue the JUST OUR DUTY in life ?
Believes MOTHER THERESA is QUINTESSENTIAL HUMANITY.
GOD is NATURE ; WE are NATURE ; therefore GOD IS IN US .
To EXPRESS oneself , one must align oneself with THE GOOD. To do only good is to feel
LOVE. To bear witness to INJUSTICE is to FEEL PAIN . To express oneself is to pursue
SELF ACTUALIZATION .
SUBJECTIVE UNCERTAINTY may yield a confrontation with the painful allowing one to possess the BOUNTIFUL and the BEAUTIFUL.

Pasquale Cuppari Visual Artist / Painting
APPROACH: EUROPEAN ART INFORMAL / TACHISME / LYRICAL ABSTRACTION ,
which entails SUBJECTIVE UNCERTAINTY .
Since 1984 Pasquale has been a SERIAL ARTIST .
HE CHOOSES HIS FORMAT : 48 inches by 60 inches on stretched canvass .
The first 80 % or so of the painting process is ART INFORMAL / TACHISME .
The last 20 % or so of the painting process is LYRICAL ABSTRACTION .
As if he were playing GOD , he lays his canvass flat and begins an intensive process of layering paint .
He intuitively floods , stains , lays chunks and dabs with informal tools such as sticks .
Pasquale generally grabs whats about him .
As if the painting were like the early stages of the universe forming itself , so too does an image .
At approximately 80 % done , he stops to contemplate his journey .
He then decides where the image can go and how it can be named .
This experience is cathartic .
The honing of the last 20 % or so of the painting entails LYRICAL ABSTRACTION .
These paintings describe a paradoxical objecthood .
The sides are painted a complementary shadow coloring .
The surface is an encrustation and excavation that is engulfing .

The paintings of Pasquale Cuppari are ALLUSIONS to a JUNGIAN landscape .
Their surface suggests a METAPHORICAL GEOLOGY of place .
These OBJECTS are not simple and are not theatrical .
Contained within is a definite TEMPO - an INHERENT measuring that unravels as one views them .
There is no single IDENTITY , meaning or interpretation possible .
Instead these objects RESONATE with a PRESENTNESS not unlike NATURE .
They EXCAVATE A PATH dictated by Pasquale's identity .
In short , these PAINTINGS PRESENT a MAGICAL PLACE seen through a COSMIC MIRROR .
Pasquale's childhood REVERBERATES here .
It is the GOLDEN SHADOW of his consciousness .
Pasquale WRESTLES with the object through SUBJECTIVE UNCERTAINTY .
This process uncovers a metaphorical place by means of SHADOW IMAGERY on the way to SELF ACTUALIZATION .
And sometimes the wind is green
